Drugstore Eyeliners

Happy Humpday, people!

I'm always on the lookout for good dupes at the Drugstore since I hate (HATE) spending extra money on things that I don't have to.  I mean, why would I pay 20something dollars for a good eyeliner if I can get an equally good one for a fraction of the cost??

In the top photo from back to front: Rimmel Scandal Eyes waterproof eyeliner (in Brown and Taupe), Maybelline Master Drama eyeliner in Coal Commander,  and Jordana FabuLiner liquid eyeliner (in Black and Brown)

Let me start by saying that I have monolids and they can be difficult to line (I have a HUGE lid space to line because it folds on itself... if that makes any sense). If I'm using a pencil, it has to be creamy enough so that I'm not dragging something super dry across my lid multiple times.  I've tried my fair share of cheap drugstore eyeliners that have left little product on the eye but lots and lots of redness from all that irritation.

Up until a couple of years ago, the only pencil liner that did the trick was the Urban Decay 24/7 liner.  I was totally in love with the pencil but hated that it was close to $20 for one.  Now as I said before I have a lot of lid space to line each time and therefore needed to sharpen the pencil after about 5 or 6 uses (it was seriously worn down to a nub).  So you can imagine how that's not every economical.  And then there was all this hype on the internets about the Milani Liquif'eye eyeliners being perfect dupes (for only about $7 or so).  I was super excited to try it but was let down by the fact that it was waaaaay too soft for my purposes AND it took longer to dry/set.

I gave up for a while and was strictly using gel liners instead but now that I've started working out again I have to do my makeup at the gym and I'm a minimalist.  If I can get away with carrying just a liner instead of a pot of gel and a brush, I will do it. So the hunt for a good pencil continued. And one day I happened across a review for the Rimmel eyeliner saying that it was yet another dupe for the beloved Urban Decay and I had to try it. I mean, c'mon it was less than $4 at Walmart! This one, dear readers, is a WINNER! I really think it's just like the Urban Decay.  I loved it so much I went out and bought one in another color just a few days later. I gotta collect them all! (... like Pokemon. Ok, maybe not like Pokemon). The one downside is that like the Urban Decay one, you have to sharpen it. But hey, for $4 I'm not complaining.

Jordana Fabuliner

The honorable mention goes the Maybelline.  It's pretty smudgeproof and oh so smooth.  You also don't need to sharpen it.  The reason I prefer the Rimmel over this one is purely the price point (and color selection).  I think the Maybelline one is roughly $8.

The last product that I want to tell you about is the Jordana FabuLiner.  Now I've never really tried a marker tip liner before so I don't really have anything to compare to.  But I will say that for $2.99, these are awesome!  I primarily use it to line my lower lash lines (pencil and gel liners will start to run by the end of the day) and it stays in place until it's time to take it off.  They're also great for drawing a clean winged-out eye as well! The colors are not super super bold but it's definitely buildable.  Here's a photo of the tip below:

I hope you all found these reviews helpful.  And please do let me know what your favorites are! I love finding new awesome products at the drugstore! ;)

  1. I have the Urban decay one too, but it ran out too fast. I agree with you, I do'nt care about spending $$$ on makeup, it's disposable anyway. And to be quite honest, I've tried it all, and drugstore cosmetic products, handsdown, win!

I use the Revlon liquid liner now, but I prefer pencil. I'll keep searching, thanks for your review!

  4. I don't use a lot of pencil eyeliner - I prefer gel or liquid - but if I'm ever looking for one, I'll go straight to Rimmel. I've had the Urban Decay 24/7 liner before and nothing compared... until now!
